Devbhoomi
Uttarakhand is famous for its beautiful tourist destinations. Tourists love
visiting the state because it is located quite close to the national capital,
Delhi. Whether it is Nainital, known as the city of lakes, Almora, Rishikesh or
Mussoorie, these destinations are highly popular among tourists. There are many
other places as well that give Uttarakhand a distinct identity in the field of
tourism.
If
you visit Almora, there are many places worth exploring. However, Dol Ashram,
located in the Lamgara block of Almora, is special in its own way. Surrounded
by beautiful valleys and lush green forests, this ashram is a centre of
spirituality and meditation. It is also known as the fifth Dham of Devbhoomi
Uttarakhand.
Dol
Ashram Was Established in 1991
Dol
Ashram was established in 1991 by Tapasvi Baba Kalyan Das Ji. Baba Kalyan Das
Ji renounced worldly life at the age of 12 and travelled to various religious
places across India. When Baba Kalyan Das Ji undertook the Kailash Mansarovar
Yatra, he is believed to have had the darshan of Maa Bhagwati. It was here that
he was inspired to establish an ashram in the Himalayas.
Inspired
by this experience, he established Dol Ashram. Baba Kalyan Das Maharaj Ji is
also the chief Mahant of the ashram. According to him, the ashram is not merely
a monastery where saints and ascetics stay and chant mantras. It is also a
centre for spirituality and meditation, where thousands of devotees can
practise meditation and spiritual disciplines.
Devotees
from different parts of India as well as from abroad visit the ashram.
A
Sanskrit School Is Also Run at the Ashram
A
Sanskrit school is also operated at Dol Ashram. It was started with just five
students, and today around 110 students study here. Education is provided free
of cost.
Children
from Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, neighbouring Nepal and the hilly regions of
Uttarakhand study at the school. Entry to Dol Ashram is free. The ashram also
has facilities such as wheelchair-accessible entry and parking. Advance ticket
booking is not required.
Temples
Dedicated to Five Deities
The
ashram has temples dedicated to five deities — Lord Ganesha, Lord Vishnu, Lord
Shiva, Shakti Surya and Maa Tripura Sundari.
In
2018, one of the world's largest and heaviest Shri Yantras was also installed
here. Made of Ashtadhatu, the Shri Yantra is approximately three and a half
feet in length and weighs around 1.5 tonnes.
Located
Around 40 km from Almora
Dol
Ashram, also known as Shri Kalyanika Himalaya Devasthanam, is located around 40
km from Almora in Uttarakhand. The ashram is situated on a high hill surrounded
by dense green forests.
The
ashram was established with the purpose of promoting yoga and meditation.
Therefore, it is not just an ashram but also an important centre of spiritual
faith and practice. Its objective is not only to teach yoga and meditation but
also to provide Vedic education. A centre for Vedic education is also located
here.
How
to Reach Dol Ashram
Dol
Ashram is well connected by road, making it convenient to reach by road. If you
wish to travel by train or air, the nearest railway station is Kathgodam, while
the nearest airport is Pantnagar.
By Road:
If
you are travelling from Delhi, you can take a bus from Anand Vihar to Haldwani.
Dol Ashram is approximately 70 km from Haldwani. From Haldwani, you can either
book a private taxi or take shared taxis to reach Dol Ashram.
By Train:
You
can also travel by train, but the train will take you only up to Kathgodam,
which is the nearest railway station. Dol Ashram is approximately 65 km from
Kathgodam. From there, you can book a private taxi or travel by shared taxi.
By Air:
If
you prefer to travel by air, Pantnagar is the nearest airport to Dol Ashram,
located approximately 98 km away. From Pantnagar, you can travel by bus towards
Haldwani, Almora or Lamgara, or hire a taxi to reach the ashram.
